Varteks was founded in 1918 as a Varaždin Textile Factory. Production of wool yarn and fabric started in 1922, followed by the production of clothing in 1926. A first store opened in 1929.
In 1948 the factory was re-named as a Textile Industry of Varaždin, or Tivar for short. Under the later name of Varteks the factory finally became the biggest producer and exporter of textile in the country. In 1972 the fashion brand Varteks Inernational was created. Di Caprio was created in 1994 as Varteks’s own premium fashion brand.
In its almost century long history Varteks has produced more then one hundred million men’s suits, positioning itself at a unique place in the European textile industry.
